DRA Tech Presents Seaplane Capabilities at Defence Services Asia (DSA) NATSEC 2026

Kuala Lumpur | 21 April 2026

DRA Tech, in collaboration with Delta Aerospace, delivered a Tech-Talk presentation at Defence Services Asia (DSA) NATSEC 2026, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), highlighting the strategic utility of seaplanes in maritime security and disaster response operations.

Titled “Utility of Seaplanes for Maritime Security & Disaster Response”, the presentation examined the role of amphibious aircraft as flexible, cost-effective platforms for modern maritime operations, particularly in regions characterised by extensive coastlines, archipelagic waters, and limited aviation infrastructure.

The session outlined how seaplanes can support a wide range of mission profiles, including maritime surveillance, coastal patrol, search and rescue (SAR), and humanitarian assistance. Their ability to operate directly from water enables rapid deployment without reliance on conventional runways, enhancing operational responsiveness in both security and emergency scenarios.

In the context of disaster response and humanitarian assistance, the presentation highlighted the value of seaplanes in post-disaster environments where airports and ports may be damaged or inaccessible. Seaplanes can deliver personnel, medical supplies, and relief cargo directly to affected coastal and island communities, significantly reducing response times.

The Tech-Talk also emphasised the operational flexibility and extended reach offered by seaplanes, which can operate from open water, rivers, and sheltered coastal areas. This capability reduces infrastructure dependency and lifecycle costs compared to traditional fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft.

Particular emphasis was placed on the relevance of seaplane operations for Southeast Asia and other maritime-centric regions, where geographic conditions, climate factors, and evolving security challenges require adaptable, multi-role aerial platforms.

Through this engagement at DSA NATSEC 2026, Delta Aerospace and DRA Tech reaffirmed their commitment to delivering innovative, mission-ready aerospace solutions that enhance maritime security, strengthen disaster response capabilities, and contribute to national and regional resilience.
